A Prescription for Paper Cuts

Released in 2005, the album is a product of two years of extensive and intense work in and outside of the studio, during which the band has explored the boundaries of several genres within the realm of rock music

Deep Child

Solstice Coil's first video. Written by Shir Deutch and directed by Amir Armel in the summer of 2006, it recaptures the story of the protagonist of the graphic novel that appears on the album, only from a slightly different angle.

Lost Ends - Spinoff Season Begins!

Feb 17th, 2010, 12:53:25

Enough is enough.

Action-drama-sci-fi-supernatural-undernatural-romantic comedy series Lost returns to its sixth and final season. Finally, all of our questions are going to be answered, particularly "why have I wasted six years of my life on this crap?"

Lost creators Jeffrey Lieber and Damon Lindelof know that once all the questions are answered, it's curtains down for them. That's why they have one ace up their sleeves – the mother of all questions – WHICH LOST CHARACTER IS GOING TO GET A SPINOFF???

Much More Money to be Made

They'll probably use an excuse like "there are just so many directions we haven't explored in the six seasons of Lost, like the smoke monster's cousin and the origin of the white polar bear."

Naturally, we all see through this and we know that this is just their way to make another quick buck before shutting down for good.

Well, I'm sold!

I have sources everywhere so I know exactly what's going on. Are you sitting down? Are you ready for this? This is going to be the biggest twist since they found out that that thing in the mountain was actually a different thing, unrelated to the thing that they thought it was.

ABC has signed off on 11 episodes of a new 22 minute long sitcom, a spinoff of a significant member of the Lost cast. Are you ready for this? Should I say it in Japanese to add mysteriousness?

Subheadline for the Sake of More Suspense

Okay, here it is. I present to you, the new spinoff from the creators of Lost: Miles!

Here's the pitch: he's an angsty and sharp-witted Asian guy with a dark past who speaks to spirits. Scarred by being abandoned by his father, imagine Miles' surprise when he finds himself on a lonely island, 30 years in the past, working for the man who abandoned him and his mother. It's gold, Jerry. GOLD!

Think of all the amusing situations Miles could walk into as he tries to preserve the space and time continuum and make up the lost time with his father, who doesn't even know he's his son!

Naturally, there will be guest appearances of various Lost stars (according to contractual obligations and last resort measurements due to failed attempts at a cinematic career)

Seriously, this could last for like… TWO seasons! Hey, if Joey made it, why can't Miles?

Seriously, though. Joey really sucked.

Mastering of Natural Causes on Friday

Jan 27th, 2010, 15:20:40

If all goes well, Solstice Coil's second album, 'Natural Causes', will be mastered this Friday, finally concluding our latest musical journey. The album will be mastered at Bardo Studios, by our good friend Erez Caspi, who also lend us a hand with mixing the album (and did an excellent job, btw).

We've been through a lot in the four years that followed the release of our first album, 'A Prescription for Paper Cuts'. We've grown up, got to play some gigs abroad, learned a few valuable lessons and had to part ways with founding members of the band.

Most of the songs on the album have been appearing on the demo on our music section for nearly two years. Still, I believe you're in for a surprise. Our songwriting style has eveloved, but we've managed to stick to the more important principles we set out for ourselves with Paper Cuts. The new sound and Yatziv's drumming on the album (instead of the VST we used on the demo) really make a difference.

We're not releasing the album right away - now starts the hunt for a proper label.

New PR photos!

Dec 9th, 2009, 08:39:21

New? Maybe I should say FIRST! In the near-eight years of the existence of Solstice Coil, it seems like we've never really had a professional photoshoot taken. Why? Many reasons, I suppose. The lack of time, funds or interest for instance. Mostly we felt that our music should represent the band and not the other way around.

Of course, with time our approach to the notion has changed, and we did have our first pr shots some two years ago, with the help of a photographer friend. This shoot was, though, quite improvised, and I personally was never really satsified with the results.

With the new album on the way, we've decided that this time we need take this thing seriously and do it right. We called on The Tomer, a talented photographer and a really nice guy altogther to help us with the task of making us look like a band in a photoshoot. And he had succceded!

Check out the post on Tomer's blog about the shooot (it's in hebrew).

Recording of Natural Causes Complete!

Nov 1st, 2009, 09:53:27

After a long process of writing, arranaging and recording, work on the second Solstice Coil album Natural Causes is nearly complete! Yesterday we visited the Eyal Amir Studio for the last time and recorded the very last guitar part needed for this album. The songs are already being mixed by Shai, so it won't be long before the album is ready!

Now comes the hard part: we are looking for a distribution deal of some sort. As much as we enjoy being a DIY band, there are some things we simply can't do on our own. So we turn to you, our faithful listeners: if you know anybody who knows anyone who might be connected to someone interested in distributing our high-end alternative-progressive rock, let us know!

You can also have them contact us:
Phone +972-50-7927175
E-mail: album@solstice.co.il

Anyone who helps us in this pursuit will receive a special credit on the album's booklet and a free copy of the album once it is released.

New job!

Aug 13th, 2009, 21:13:10
Yes, it is true. After nearly two years of working at Ifat as a translator, I've ended this chapter in my life and moved on to the next. My new place of employment is called Shark, an information group that provides market research and content management services for enterprises in Israel.

I won't bore you with the details, but my position is defined as a "content manager", which means I write, rewrite and translate various materials. It's pretty fun, I'm learning a lot about the world of marketing content as well as the world of diamonds, how to maintain a washing machine (don't ask) and even some SEO.

I don't usually get official credit for my work, but I do get credit on the Israel Diamond Industry Portal. So if you happen to be looking for me on Google, don't be surprised when you find results like this.

Got a gig with my solo side project band on Saturday at the Mike's Place, free entrance if you're up to it. It's starting to pick up nicely, and I'm soon going to start recording again and finishing this god damn album already. Also make sure you save the date of September 10 – we're playing a very special concert with Behind the Sun!
